SPD Public Lecture Series Features Insights from a Top Australian Expert in Clinical and Forensic Victimology

Dr Amber McKinley, a leading Australian expert in Clinical and Forensic Victimology and Senior Lecturer at Charles Sturt University’s Australian Graduate School of Policing and Security, joined our SPD Public Lecture series on 23rd November, to deliver a lecture on “Getting Under the Skin of Human Trafficking”.

A diverse range of participants attended this lecture, ranging from our own undergraduates to academics and partners from across the region. Dr McKinley gave a highly insightful presentation on victimology in the context of human trafficking and prevention, protection and prosecution related to such crimes. She also introduced her new concept of “conditional vulnerability” which will feature in her next research publication in 2023, and this was followed by an engaging Q&A session with participants.

Feedback from participants was very postive with one participant commenting that it was a "Really great session! Trafficking is not a topic thats normally a theme for webinar/lecture especially one that focusses on the victims, an angle that I think has not been focussed on enough. The crime itself has always been the central topic."
